Mersin Archeology Museum
Brand Design, 2024 (Graduation Project)
This visual identity design, proposed for the Mersin Archaeological Museum, is shaped around the developmental process between the historical periods represented within the museum itself. In the logo derived from this concept, the formal differences between the typefaces Lithos and Trajan are taken into account: Lithos (used for “Mersin”) is associated with the Neolithic Age—the earliest period exhibited—while Trajan (used for “Museum”) corresponds to the Roman Era—the latest period displayed. Through this contrast, the design expresses the developmental transition between two historical periods.
The word “archaeology” is designed by applying two typefaces (Lithos and Trajan), chosen according to the periods exhibited in the museum, to each letter of the word with percentage-based proportions. This approach expresses the museum’s developmental process between the periods through the word “archaeology.”
The pictograms, created for use within the museum, on totems, and in the mobile application, have been integrated in a negative form into the structure found in the logo (originating from the diacritic mark on the letters “i”).
